Description
The H-19 helicopter, also known as “Chickasaw”, was one of the first tactical transport helicopters developed by Sikorsky in the 1940s. Designed to carry troops and materials, the H-19 was designed and manufactured with the characteristic engine mounted frontally. The design was innovative for the time and optimized flight stability and maneuverability, offering good operational versatility. It entered service in the early 1950s and was used by the US military during the Korean War. Its good performance and high affability were the basis for the helicopter diffusion in many countries. From the valid H-19 cell, several versions and variants were also produced to carry out specific operational missions, from maritime patrol to medical assistance.
