Description

On December 16, 1944, the German army launched through the dense wooded area of the Ardennes, Belgium, a major offensive called the codename “Wacht am Rhein”. The city of Bastogne, a focal point for road communications and an important logistics center, was one of the main objectives of the strategic plan. The Belgian town and its surrounding areas were encircled by German forces, isolating, in fact, within the sac, a large number of American troops who resisted for many days the repeated assaults of the enemy in adverse weather and environmental conditions. Epica was the resistance of the 101st American Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles”. On December 26, the counteroffensive of some U.S. armored divisions of the Third Army, under the command of General George Smith Patton, ended the siege.
