History
A key aircraft of the early jet age, the North American F-86 Sabre was essentially a jet-powered iteration of the company’s highly acclaimed P-51D Mustang from the Second World War. The North American F-86F Sabre holds a legendary place in South African military history, primarily for its role with the South African Air Force (SAAF) during the final months of the Korean War. Operated by the famous 2 Squadron, known as the “Flying Cheetahs,” these jets replaced the squadron’s aging F-51D Mustangs in early 1953.
