History
The Hawker Hurricane was the RAF’s most essential fighter in the early years of WWII. These durable, partly fabric-covered monoplane fighters mounted a brave defence against the numerically superior Luftwaffe during the Blitzkrieg. Although slower than the Messerschmitt Bf109, and with a less powerful armament, the Hurricane could turn more sharply and withstand significant damage.
A total of 29 Hurricane Mk Is served in the SAAF, serialed 271 to 299.
Armament consisted of eight 0.303-in (7.7mm) Browning machine-guns with 2 660 rounds of ammunition.
