Description
Academy 1/48 USN TBF-1C Avenger “Leyte Gulf” 25.2cm Long.
The TBF is a U.S. Navy carrier-based torpedo bomber. The TBF-1 was sent to Midway to replace the declining TBD-1 Devastator when the USN became aware of the island’s impending attack. Six of these aircraft were sent to attack the Japanese fleet, which resulted in 5 aircraft being downed and the 6th crash landing on Midway. More firepower was needed, resulting in the installation of a 0.50 caliber machine gun in each wing and the expansion of the fuel tanks. This adjustment created the TBF-1C, with subsequent improvements including adding four rails under each wing. The finished 1/48 scale model is 25.2cm long and 9.8cm tall.
